Comprehensive Gynecological Care in Las Vegas

One of the most critical aspects of gynecological treatment is annual preventative care. Most women visit the gynecologist once per year at a minimum. This is necessary so we can perform a thorough gynecological exam and make sure you are not at risk for serious health conditions. Preventative care is very important in gynecological medicine. The sooner we catch potential health risks, the higher the chance that we can treat them successfully. This is why your annual gynecological exam is essential. It allows you to bring up any concerns you have had about your gynecological health.

Annual Gynecological Exam: What to Expect

During your annual exam, a gynecologist will collect important information about your health and medical history. We start the exam by collecting basic information like heart rate, blood pressure, height, and weight. Then your provider will ask you questions about your menstrual cycle, sexual activity, contraceptive practices, and fertility needs.

We are a compassionate practice at Spring Mountain Women’s Health. Our healthcare providers are here to help you establish and maintain a foundation of health and overall wellness by identifying potential health risks and developing a wellness plan moving forward.

After discussing your general information and medical history, we perform a pelvic exam. A pelvic exam has three parts: vulva examination, vaginal and cervical examination, and uterus examination.

The vulva examination is a visual inspection of the external area around your vaginal opening. We check for signs of any abnormalities that could pose a risk to your health.

The vaginal exam is done using a speculum. We make every effort to ensure you are comfortable and calm during your vaginal examination.

The speculum is coated in lubricant to reduce friction and discomfort. We may take a cell sample of your cervix to check for signs of cervical cancer. This is an important part of your annual exam.

Lastly, we check your uterus and ovaries for uterine fibroids, ovarian cysts, other health concerns or irregularities. This is typically done with your provider’s gloved hand.

If you have any concerns or anxiety about your annual exam, speak to your provider. Your comfort is our top priority.

STD Screenings

Sexually transmitted diseases can be dangerous and even fatal if left untreated. We recommend getting screened for STDs after every new sexual partner and routinely throughout the year. Some STDs stay dormant with no symptoms for many years. That is why it is important to keep up on STD screenings to protect yourself and your sexual partners.

We do comprehensive STD testing at our office. We check for common sexually transmitted infections and viruses, including HIV and AIDS. If your results return positive for any STD, we offer treatment through prescriptions, topical medications and pain management.

Our office is a no-judgment zone. We will never judge, insult, or embarrass you for your sexual health. We want you to feel comfortable getting the services that you need to stay healthy and happy. Regardless of your sexual history or STD status, we are here to support and care for you.

Cancer Prevention

Cervical cancer is a devastating disease that affects millions of women each year. The unfortunate reality is that most women with cervical cancer do not know until the disease has progressed rapidly. We can help you avoid this with regular exams, pap smears, and cancer screenings.

Along with your annual gynecological exam, we offer a few diagnostic procedures to check for vaginal and cervical abnormalities. If your doctor notices anything abnormal near your vulva, vagina, or cervix, they can order tests and perform exams. Prevention is key when it comes to cervical cancer.

We are diligent about providing yearly exams for all of our patients and dedicated to cancer prevention and patient education. Annual exams and pap smears are opportunities for your doctor to find precancerous cells and other abnormalities if they are present.

I can only speak as someone who goes in for annual exams and depo shots, but I've never had an issue.  Waiting room is pleasant, never waiting more than 15 minutes past my appointment time and everyone is professional.
